Affordable, quality pet boarding in a clean and friendly environment. Named after the stream that borders our facility, Rutgers Creek was built from the ground up to be a kennel — with all the little things twenty years of experience teaches you.
Steven James has been in the pet boarding business for over twenty years. His first kennel was Royalty Resort for Pets in Middletown, New York — a building renovated into a kennel.
In 2013, Steve decided to build from the ground up a brand new building specifically to be a kennel. Named after the stream that borders our facility, Rutgers Creek has all the little things Steve has learned from his experience at Royalty Resort that make our kennels cleaner, safer, and more fun for our boarders.
We accommodate all types of pets, as well as all breeds of dogs, but they must be people-friendly. We administer special diets and medication at no extra cost. We let our boarders out by hand, so they get a personal, human connection and feel safer while staying with us. Dogs that get along can play together outside, always supervised.
Rutgers Creek specializes in safe, clean, and fun pet boarding. Whether your dog is with us for a long weekend, a day, or just a bath — they'll be handled, petted, played with, and cared for as if they were our own.
Our pet resort has 29 kennels, each four by ten feet — spacious enough that multiple dogs from the same family can stay together. Owners may bring their own food (individually packaged per feeding), or your dog can be fed our dry, bland kennel diet at no additional cost. Beds and toys welcome.
We also offer daycare. The accommodations and care are the same as boarding pets — they're let outside six times a day, played with, and fed or given medications if their schedule falls during the hours they're with us. Perfect for long workdays or the in-between.
Our most common grooming service is a shampoo, conditioner, nail clipping, and ear cleaning — but we also do just baths or just nails. Price varies by the job, size of dog, and difficulty. We usually do these the day of pick-up so your pup goes home clean and ready.
We recommend you come for a tour of the kennel prior to boarding — or just to check us out. We can answer all your questions, get paperwork filled out in advance, and help you make your first reservation. We also try to post pictures of every boarder while they stay with us.

The owner of Rutgers Creek Pet Resort is Steven James. He has his own dogs that stay at the kennel right alongside yours: Chief, a Labrador, and Scoot and Cedar, who are both Jack Russells.
There are five other workers currently at the kennel. Between them you'll recognize faces at drop-off and pick-up — the same crew, day after day. Nobody is passing your dog off to a stranger.
…plus Chief, Scoot, and Cedar.
